Area Audit Training Meetings

We were invited to attend the Area Auditor training sessions in Salt Lake City in mid October.  The Area Auditor couples from each area of the Church worldwide attended.  Two areas in Africa have two Area Audit couples. In all there were about 17 couples there representing the 15 areas outside the USA and Canada.  It was a busy and full two days during which we were taught and instructed by Elder C. Scott Grow of the Seventy and the Chairman of the Church Audit Committee, Robert H. Cantwell, Managing Director of the Church Auditing Department along with other members of the Auditing Department. The sessions were held in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  We were well fed both spiritually and physically.

 Getting down to work

Included in the meetings were two breakout sessions.  Each Area Audit couple had been assigned ahead of time to lead a discussion during these sessions.  Our group included one couple from Moscow, Russia, and four couples from Africa. We had been assigned to make a presentation and lead a discussion on "Effective Orientation and Initial Training" of Assistant Area Auditors.  I think the presentation went well.  We found it very beneficial to hear from the other couples and share ideas and swap notes, etc.  We will now take back what we learned and share it with our Assistant Area Auditors at our annual training session for them planned for early in the new year.

 Break Time

It was a real treat to have the opportunity to spend a few days in Salt Lake City and feel of the strength and spirit of those who participated in the training sessions.  We also had the opportunity to attend a session in the Salt Lake Temple, which was a very nice experience.

On the way to Salt Lake we had the opportunity to travel by way of Calgary and spend a few days at home with the Calgary members of the family.  It was great to see everyone and especially the two new grandsons born since we have been here in Hong Kong.  Baby Alexander ("Xander") was blessed while we were there so we were able to participate in that event.  It was also fun to meet baby Deacon for the first time.  The Calgary Temple open house was on while we were there so we got to see the temple as well.  It is a beautiful building.  We are sorry we had to miss the dedication.

We are happy to be back in Hong Kong and looking forward to the remaining time of our mission assignment.
